Ricky Ponting Run Out By Flintoff: Ashes 2009

by admin on September 5, 2009

Another great moment worthy of watching with the Cricket Theme Tune:

It was the final Ashes Test Match at the Oval – and Australia already staring down the barrel of a gun had made a valiant attempt at a fighting comeback. They were relying on their captain Ricky Ponting to play the innings of his life.

It wasn’t to be though.

Michael Hussey played a shot directly to Freddie Flintoff off the bowling of Steve Harmison.

It was a magical moment to watch as Flintoff made a direct hit to the stumps and ended Pontings dream of retaining the Ashes for Australia.

One of the 21st Century’s greatest sporting events is captured for all time. It reads like a Boy’s Own comic :- wounded hero gallantly rescues his comrades from defeat etc. Andrew Flintoff went out in a blaze of glory as befitting his iconic status, and England brought back the Ashes again.

Utterly fantastic. Like Best and Ali, we won’t see his likes again.
